D.A.V. Sen. Sec. School, Urmar was founded in 1943 by its founder President, Prof. Charu Deva Shastri under the name of DAV High School, Urmar.

The staff is the backbone of any good organization and your School lays emphasis on the hiring and training capable, qualified, dedicated and devoted teachers. The school has an excellent team of teachers and educators, all of them, committed to the subtle, human, intellectual and physical development of the children and to their own professional development. The teaching staff consists of qualified and trained teachers who have special aptitude for working in a school.

Admissions

    • The academic year begins in April and ends in March.

 

    • Admission to various classes shall be open to all irrespective of class, creed, or race. However, the school authorities and the principal reserve the right to refuse admission to a student who in their opinion is not or will not be able to cope with the studies and syllabus in the school. Registration of a child does not guarantee admission, it only means that the child is entitled to appear for an interview, after which the school authorities and principle will decide whether admission is to be given or not.

 

  • Students are usually admitted only at the beginning of the school year. Admission to nursery is taken at the minimum age of three and a half years.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten literally means children’s garden in form of education for younger children which serves as a transition from home to the commencement of more formal schooling, children are taught to develop basic skills through creative play and social interaction with others appropriately.

 

Our teachers use various techniques, use teaching methods and activities to motivate young children to learn the language and vocabulary of reading, mathematics, science and computer as well as music, art and social behaviours. Since these children have spent most of their time at home, kindergarten helps them adjust to being away from their parents without anxiety. They learn how to collaborate, share, and respond to each other with compassion and equality while they play and interact with children on regular basis.

The medium of instruction are English, Punjabi and Hindi. Every effort is made to teach the student to handle English effectively along with Punjabi and Hindi.

The School prepares the students for Examination by Punjab School Education Board (PSEB).

There is no specific syllabus for the entrance test, but children are expected to have the minimum knowledge of one is own mother tongue and English language and numbers. Basic understanding of animals and birds, fruits and vegetables and household articles etc.

 

Lower KG

Written test in English alphabet and numbers from 1 to 50 in figures.

Oral test in names of fruit, flowers, color’s, animals, and vegetables.

Written test in English, Mathematics, and general knowledge.

 

Notes

 

  • Students and parents must read all the rules printed on the school prospectus, school diary/ novel book/ assignment book and circulars which issued from time to time.

  • Management is entitled to delete, add, to alter or otherwise amend the rules and regulations of the school from time to time. Such amendment shall become binding to all.

  • Students can be withdrawn from the school by giving one calendar month notice. Fee for three months fee will be charged and paid for before the student’s name is struck off the rolls. In case of any dispute or differences of opinion, the decision of the Chairman will be final and binding on all parties concerned.

  • The school management earnestly solicits the full co-operation ofthe parents and guardians to make education of your Child a success.

Members of the core team and teacher educators from professional organisations regularly conduct training and development workshops and seminars. In addition, workshops and seminars also conducted by resource persons from schools of higher learning. Intense in-service workshops are conducted during each vacation of the school calendar. These are supported by regular staff interaction where everyday situations are discussed, analysed, and resolved to create on enriching environment for both teachers and learners.

The teachers being at the core of all teaching learning activities, it is the teacher support and development process that sets us apart. For our teachers to be efficient and effective, we recognise the important of the factors that allow them to perform their roles effectively and avoid those that hinder it.

 

Careful selection of trained teachers is followed by a strong teacher development. A well designed in service training program provides opportunities for teachers to:-

The school house system at your School helps teach children the value of teamwork and good behaviour. We place great importance on teamwork and the benefits of good behaviour. School house system is an integral part of student life. Each student is placed in a house.

Hindi Divas celebration speech, debate, quiz, dance, singing, reading, writing, Rangoli making collage making, best out of waste mehindi competition art and craft, teachers day celebration, independence day, Diwali, Lohri celebration and many more.

Rest in the summer is compulsory for all the kids and the teachers. It begins from 1st June to 30th June.

The school has well equipped laboratories for science, computer science, mathematics and language. These laboratories give the students extensive practical experience to supplement the theoretical lessons learnt in the classroom.

The school has a modern aesthetically, airy auditorium, which also functions as the Multipurpose hall. It is used for various interschool competitions as well as functions, workshops, seminars and conferences.

The school also has well equipped vocal and instrument music and dance rooms, where the students are trained in various forms of performing arts. Music and dance are, in fact, two of the most liked and loved activities by our students.

The library has well equipped with large stock of books including encyclopaedias, reference books, course books and various genres of literature. The library also subscribe to a number of dailies, magazines and journals. The school has a vigorous DEAR (drop everything and Read) programme supported by its library, to introduce its students to the fascinating world of books.

The school takes special care of eh physical health of its students and encourage games and sports activities by providing the required infrastructural facilities and coach for athletics, football, basketball, volleyball, cricket and yoga.

The school has a wellness centre cum infirmary in its senior academic block precincts. Which is equipped to deal with emergency as well as routine health related issues. Periodical medical check-ups are also conducted for each student. A record of the same is systematically maintained and shared with parents.
